The Classic Mike Loyer Foundation was founded on July 19th, 2011, one day after Mike’s passing. On this day, many of Mike’s family and friends gathered to share memories and discuss ways to honor Mike by keeping his giving spirit alive. The idea that led to the creation of this foundation was first proposed by Mike’s nephew, Jake, who suggested that an annual memorial golf tournament be formed to raise money for charitable causes around the community. Thrilled with this idea, Mike’s loved ones pulled together to organize this tournament and develop The Classic Mike Loyer Foundation.
Beyond our deep desire to create a foundation to carry on Mike’s legacy, the need for such a group became immediately clear to Mike’s family as they organized his final services. Surprisingly, there is very little support and funds available to help individuals dealing with the accidental worksite death of a loved one. The costs associated with end-of-life services are significantly higher than the amount Vermont state statute allows insurance companies to provide to these families.
This realization led to the formation of the primary mission of The Classic Mike Loyer Foundation: To assist Vermont families who are dealing with the accidental worksite death of a loved one. Our goal is to provide financial aid to these families to help lessen the burden associated with the sudden and devastating loss of a family member.
The secondary mission of the foundation was born from a common theme found in many stories shared about Mike after his passing. These stories continuously revealed that Mike was a caring soul who constantly helped those around him without the expectation of receiving any thanks or credit. Mike took joy from completing acts of kindness that improved the lives of those he loved. For this reason, the foundation aims to continue to carry out acts of kindness in Mike’s name by financially supporting unique causes within the community.
